(07/11/12) The Bucket List

I don’t know if this would be a real bucket list or not because neither of us is anywhere close to our expiration dates (we hope). Perhaps I should more aptly name is a Life List or a Dream List. We each have our own professional, personal, travel and hobby goals that at any given point, we are moving closer to accomplishing or to abandoning for something else. I thought maybe you guys would be curious to see what we could possibly have in the queue after this adventure.

We’ve spent a considerable amount of time talking about this very topic while hiking and while driving the over 3,000 miles that we logged so far this trip. Here are our thoughts, in no particular order…

  • Drive the Washington-Oregon-California coastline
  • The Redwood Forest/ Muir Woods
  •  A southwest loop (Acoma Pueblo, Mesa Verde, Slide Rock State Park, Santa Fe, Albuerque, etc.)
  • Alaska
  • Return to Loreto, Baja Mexico in the winter season to see the blue whales give birth
  • A central American rainforest
  • Australia, New Zealand, Tazmania
  • Europe (UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium)
  • Sleep in a real/ legitimate tree house (needs to be up in a tree, not just on stilts, plumbing optional, rope ladder preferable)
  • Iceland
  • Easter Island
  • Galapagos Islands
  • Swim in the Forks of the Smith River (Oregon)
  • Africa – a safari, Gorillas in the Congo (this one is least likely to happen because of ongoing instability in the area) and Ngorongoro Crater
  • Mt. Everest base camp (not up the hill!) and Tibet
  • A train ride across the US
  • Observe the baby sea turtle nesting and birth in S.C.
  • Work for a week at a dude ranch out west
  • Hike the Appalachain Trail (or parts of it and shade in a map of completed sections)

Any place we’ve left off that you think we need to include? Is there any overlap between our list and yours?
