(07/02/12) A change in plans

We had a great traveling day yesterday. We passed out of Maryland pretty early and were through Ohio before we knew it. George saw a sign on the highway for a chocolate boutique at a rest stop and asked if I would like to stop. I do not understand why he still asks... My answer for the last 7 years has been "uh, yes!" We left with 6 caramels in milk chocolate. Two are still on our cooler. We had originally planned to stay last night in Elkhart, Indiana, at a campground with electric. But as we drove father on, George, the champ, wanted to pushing a little more I think he was trying to shave some off of today's drive of nearly 10 hours and I didn't blame him one bit. So I grabbed the iPad and started googling campsites in towns father up the road and stumbled upon Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. No electric hookup, but very nice bathrooms, a quiet campground and less than 5 minutes to the edge of Lake Michigan. An extremely hazy evening prevented us from seeing the Chicago skyline. Bummer! We made a delicious dinner - tomato soup, grilled corn on the cob, rice & sesame crackers and golden delicious apple slices. Then we headed out to climb Mt. Baldy and walk along the beach. Of course, we picked up a rock. There are more than a few fist-sized or smaller rocks around our home. When we go somewhere we like, we find a rock and take it with us Our hopes are that our loved ones will replace these labelled rocks when we are both gone, retracing the footsteps that mattered most to us. Finally, showers before bed and sleeping in the Joey for the first night if the trip. Yesterday's thunderstorm brought the temperature down to a manageable 70, and with our fan, we slept like logs. We woke up this morning rested and cool. I think I could do this forever.
